A familiar name sits atop Golf Digest's 50 Best Teachers ranking for 2013-'14, and a new star has joined him. A panel of 1,200 leading golf instructors nationwide has voted Butch Harmon the No. 1 teacher in America for a seventh time, and Sean Foley surged from 35th in the previous ranking to No. 2, no doubt because of his high-profile work with Tiger Woods, Justin Rose, Hunter Mahan and Lee Westwood. Rounding out the top 10 are Jim McLean, Mike Bender, David Leadbetter, Chuck Cook, Jim Hardy, Todd Anderson, Mike Adams and Martin Hall. The voting panel chose the new 50 Best Teachers as well as a state-by-state ranking
that recognizes 492 instructors. Joining the 50 Best this time are: Claude Harmon III, Andy Plummer, Brian Manzella, Mike Bennett, Charlie King and Grant Waite. This is the first ranking without teaching legends Jim Flick,
who passed away last November, and Peggy Kirk Bell,
who has retired from the lesson tee. Both would make any all-time-best list, and their contributions will be missed.
