What's the secret to making a golf swing look effortless? I get that question a lot, and if you held me to just one reason, I'd say it's tempo. I have smooth tempo and pretty much hit the ball solidly. Maybe my swing looks lazy, but I promise you, I'm going hard at the ball—it's just that the speed comes right at impact. That's why I've always had good distance. If you want to swing like me, there are a few things you can do. It starts with a pre-shot routine that's a little different from what other pros do and ends with a move all amateurs should be trying for, whether you're 30 or 70, a single-digit or a beginner. How To Swing Like Me
SEE THE FLIGHT YOU WANT
START LOW AND TURN BIG
CLEAR AND RELEASE
Coming down, my lower body rotates toward the target, but my upper body is basically facing the ball at impact. This gets my club to swing down from inside the target line and, more important, allows me to release the club out toward the target. So clear your lower body, then swing through. Get that right, and they might start calling you "Boom Boom," too.
