What's In My Bag? Ernie Els

Working Back

I've had a couple of quiet years. I'm just trying to get better, and that's why I went to Butch Harmon last year for some new ideas. The big thing is, I have to get my short game sharp. I believe there are a lot of good rounds left in me, and I still have a goal to complete the career Grand Slam.

Changing Tastes

I used to be a beer guy, but now I'm a wine man. In 2002, the 2000 Engelbrecht Els wine was released in South Africa and received high ratings. After a round of golf, I like a little chardonnay, followed by a Bordeaux blend with my steak. I prefer old-world wines like Lafite Rothschild and Margaux.

Under The Knife

Tiger's knee surgery last year was similar to mine in 2005. I wanted to get right to rehab and get back playing, but I felt swelling for a good six months after I came back. He took more down time, but he's such a great talent that I think he'll do fine.

zero-sum game

I usually play the Callaway Tour i, but I might try the Tour ix on windy days. I use a "0" ball, and I mark it with a black line to help me line up putts.

with a purpose

I carry this lion headcover made by Daphne's Headcovers, which supports the Ernie Els & Fancourt Foundation to help less-fortunate kids.
