What's In My Bag? Geoff Ogilvy

April 2009
It's All Good

I don't mind equipment changes that much because sooner or later I'll hit any club the way I like to hit my shots. That's why I'm not a good tester of drivers. After six shots, I'm hitting anything good.

Playing Ball

I'm affected by [the November court ruling to stop the sale of older Pro V1s because of patent infringement]. I put the new Pro V1 in play at the FBR Open. For me, it's a pretty seamless change to the new one. It's just frustrating for the guys who are stuck on the old Pro V1. You're forced into a change, and guys out on tour don't like that.

Groove Rule

It's a good rule to limit the groove depth in irons [beginning in 2010 on the PGA Tour]. I'll start messing with new irons and wedges during the year. I was kind of steep with my swing and hit big flyers when I was 17. I learned to read how far I was going to hit it. When we can't spin the ball like we can now, knowing how far a flyer is going to go will be a big part of the game.

PICK A PUTTER

Scotty Cameron made me four putters about the same time. Their differences are negligible, but I rotate them a few times a year.

BALMS AWAY!

I can't go on the course without lip balm. I'm unhappy without it. That's as close as I come to having a superstition.
