Star Wars headcovers: May the course be with you

By John Strege

We're not sure when headcovers made the transition from functional to fanciful, but clearly they're no longer used simply to prevent woods from getting dinged.

Headcovers these days are often reflections of one's personality or interests, even nickname. Tiger Woods' driver headcover, for instance, is a tiger with the Thai words for "love from Mom" stitched into it, handmade by his Thai mother, Kultida. Paula Creamer, the Pink Panther, as she's known, has a pink panther head cover.

Among the latest offerings in headcovers is a Star War series. Darth Vader (shown here), Yoda, Chewbacca, Stormtrooper and R2-D2 ($24.98) are available for drivers or hybrids through Golfsmith, Golf Galaxy, Hornung's Golf, Dick's Sporting Goods and other golf shops.

May the course be with you.
