Hot And Heavy

ORLANDO, Fla. -- It was only a matter of time before Heavy Putter brand applied their technology to other areas of the equipment world. A Heavy driver? Not so much. Heavy hybrids? Probably not a great idea. But a Heavy wedge, that may not be such a far-fetched concept. At least not according to company president Steve Boccieri, who's introducing the new Control Series Heavy Wedge at this week's PGA Merchandise Show.

"It's not a super-heavy clubhead," says Boccieri, "only five grams heavier in the head than your average wedge." The real weight difference is in the grip end of the club. "We're using the Heavy back-weighting technology to add 65 grams to the handle," says Boccieri.

For chip shots around the green, this is meant to help prevent too much movement in the smaller muscles. On full-swing wedge shots, Boccieri claims the back-weighting will aid players in setting their wrists faster, staying on plane throughout the swing and avoiding flipping their hands too much through impact.
