Kerr, Stanford fall short

COLORADO SPRINGS, Co. -- On a morning when three players had a chance to tie Hee Kyung Seo's final score of three under par, only So Yeon Ryu capitalized (a eventually won the 66th U.S. Women's Open in a three-hole playoff). Cristie Kerr had to birdie the 17th and 18th holes, while Angela Stanford needed birdies on three of the four holes she played Monday morning.

"I was pretty confident," said Kerr, about her 12-foot downhill birdie putt on the 17th hole. (She missed it and settled for par.) "It was a pretty tricky read, though. I was a little bit jacked up."

Stanford, a four-time winner on the LPGA Tour who still hasn't won a major, seemingly cracked under the pressure of knowing she needed to birdie three of four holes.

"Knowing that you have to make three out of the last four," sadi Stanford, "I've done it before in the past, and fortunately they were four holes that I could have done it. Just a little bit of a misread on 17."
