Yesterday I did a quick check on availability at the No. 1 public course in the country. If you have $495 and a free wish, it looks like April is a good month to play Pebble Beach:
The Daly brothers agreed with my column, but growing up in Coronado, they aren't happy with me. They don't appreciate the fact that I keep promoting their home course, making it more difficult to secure tee times . . .
"Once again, your article on 'Nado has stirred up the Daly brothers," says Kevin Daly. "As the little brother, I'm the one they send out at 3 a.m., to wait in line for a lottery pick."
"Difficult to argue with your cost-benefit analysis," says Mike Daly. "Coronado's muny in 75 degrees with a light breeze: $35. A U.S. Navy Blue Angels flyover: Priceless!"
Mike attached a fantastic photo (shotby Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Roland A. Franklin) and John provided some caption info: "On Feb. 12, 2011, a formation of F/A-18 Hornet strike fighters (the Blue Angels) flew over San Diego Harbor while participating in the Parade of Flight, an air show showcasing historic and current Naval aircraft in celebration of the Centennial of Naval Aviation." (Click here for a better view of the picture.)
"I just hope we can actually tee it up there together some day," says Kevin.
Me too, Kevin. I'll meet you at 3 a.m.; coffee, bagel and the green fees are on me.
As someone who appreciates freedoms--such as speech and choice--I enjoyed this short video on the Centennial of Naval Aviation:
