Tuesday's Travel Tips

I get a lot of e-mails from . . . let’s call them “efficient” PR personnel.

Starting this week, I’ll take a selection of the best deals and post them every Tuesday.

What’s more spectacular than the North Shore of Kauai?

That’s Taylor, my surf instructor! (You might say shameless, I chose spectacular.) Click here to read more about Taylor Kaluahine-Reid.

Can we agree the Na Pali Coast is spectacular?

The last time I played the Prince, ranked No. 12 on Golf Digest’s list of America's 100 Greatest Public, the views were better than the condition of the course, but it sounds like they’re taking steps to change that. As a result, if you just happen to find yourself on the island of Kauai anytime soon (I’m jealous), you’ll benefit from a break on the $200 green fee.

According to this link (click here), they’re working on the greens and bunkers at the Prince course on the North Shore of Kauai, so you can play it right now for $100.

This is just one of the deals I’m featuring this week . . .

The Robert Trent Jones Trail is a whole lot of good golf, better value, even without a special offer. Try:

--3 days of unlimited golf on the Trail for $195. Call: 1-800-949-4444, rate code: 76.

Or,

--“Winter Magic”: One round at Ross Bridge (above) and one round at Oxmoor Valley for $150 (includes cart fees and range balls). Call: 1-800-949-4444, rate code: 77.

(Click here for a link to a story I wrote about my trip to Ross Bridge and Oxmoor Valley.)

--I haven’t been there yet, so I’ll refrain from saying it’s too hard and too expensive, but the price to play Pound Ridge Golf Club, an hour from Manhattan, is coming down: From $235 in peak season to $150 this Fall, and $100 after 2 p.m. Now might be the time (say, 2:15 p.m.?), to give the Pete Dye-design a try.

--It’s no secret Vegas is struggling. As a result the MGM Grand is running the “Fall Frenzy” special (all year). From Oct.26, 2010 -- Sept. 30, 2011, they’re offering rooms starting at $55 per night. Click here for more details.

--I’ve never played these courses, so feel free to comment, but this sounds like good value in an area loaded with great golf: “Carolina Golf Specials”: 3 rounds, 2 nights playing Deercroft, Whispering Woods, The Bluffs for $125 per person. Or, 3 rounds, 3 nights at Little River Resort playing Southern Pines G.C., Foxfire and Whispering Pines C.C. for $199 per person. Click here for more details.

What have you heard about that you consider good value?

Post it in the comments box below, or send it to me by clicking here.

Thank you in advance for your input.
