The venerable Country Club of Lansing, which opened 101 years ago in Michigan's capital, has lost roughly 20 percent of its membership in the past couple of seasons and is now in foreclosure, WILX-TV is reporting. The TV station quotes an attorney for the club's board as saying it has until May 7 to reach an agreement with its lender, National City Bank. It owes more than $6.75 million on a 1999 mortgage, according to the Lansing State Journal. That same year, the company spent $7 million renovating its clubhouse (pictured), the club's web site says.
The club, with an 18-hole course designed by William Langford in the 1920s, recently had 700 members. Now that number is more like 550 to 600, WILX reports.
