Shuttered Faldo Course in Kansas to Reopen

The course, open less than two years before it was shuttered in December, will reopen in April, according to this story in Wednesday's edition of The Wichita Eagle. Lane Neville, the developer of the community, told the newspaper the winter closing was a "function of restructuring debt."

Despite the reopening, Neville admitted that it will be at least a year before the housing development part of the project can begin. Local county officials, who had allocated more than $1 million of public funds to make infrastructure improvements around Cottonwood Hills -- such as the building of new roads -- said those plans are on hold until Cottonwood Hills starts to show signs of long-term success.

"We're going to have to see a lot of progress before we spend that money," Reno County Commission Chairman Brad Dillon told The Eagle.

Neville told reporters Cottonwood Hills lost $125,000 in 2008. Chris Tuohey, the general manager of a nearby course, Sand Creek Station GC, said, "If that's all he lost over there last year, that's terrific."
