Photo Essay: Five Days In Ireland
An editor reflects on his ultimate golf-buddies trip
While I've been on some buddies golf trips before and have been lucky enough to cover dozens of major championships, this was something else entirely: a journey with 11 friends from my hometown of Rye, N.Y., to experience some of the game's hallowed courses. The level of golfer ranged from former collegiate players to beleaguered golf editors to guys who agreed to squeeze in 18 holes between visits to the pubs.
Along the way, we constructed dozens of side bets, surrendered to belly laughs every couple of minutes, and never seemed to go very long without shaking our heads at our collective good fortune. More than once, we referred to it as "a trip of a lifetime." Call me greedy, but I'm already plotting ways I can get back.
