The 2013 Lido Competition, inspired by the genius of Alister MacKenzie, wants you to take your best shot at designing a par 3 that would do the grand old architect proud

For the second straight year, the Lido Competition, the annual golf design contest co-sponsored by Golf World and the Alister MacKenzie Society, is limited to a par-3 hole that you feel best reflects the design philosophy of the grand old golf architect, Dr. Alister MacKenzie.
Thinking of entering a Tiny Tim inspired by our short and sweet photo essay? You could do so, for the rules specify your dream hole can be as short as 95 yards. But it can also be as long as 240 yards. MacKenzie did both types, at the same course in fact. His 15th at Cypress Point is a gorgeous 143 yards over an rocky Pacific inlet, while his 16th hole, one of the most famous in golf, is a 219-yard forced carry over a vast ocean cove.
Other than yardage, the only limit is your imagination. The 2013 Lido Competition offers a grand prize of $3,000, plus a bonus of $2,000 to defray travel expenses if our winner attends the MacKenzie Society's annual meeting at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif. on October 6-8, 2013.
Judging this year's entries will be golf architect Todd Eckenrode of Origins Golf Design, Irvine, Calif., whose best-known designs include the eco-friendly Barona Creek GC near San Diego and the upscale short course Links at Terranea in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Eckenrode also handled the recent restoration of the classic Lakeside GC of Hollywood.
Each contestant is limited to one entry in the 2013 Lido Competition. Contest entries must be a hand-drawn design, on paper not larger than 11"x17", with one sheet of supporting explanation. An entry form must accompany your drawing.

Deadline for receipt of all entries is June 1, 2013. The winner will be notified no later than June 15, 2013.
