It's easy to believe golf's ruling bodies have completely closed the door on driver improvement. In the past two decades, more rules have been implemented against the driver than any other club. But golf-club engineers don't give up. The limits aren't limiting, they're inspiring. "It's probably tough for them to foresee how creative engineers are going to react within the box that they put us in," says Todd Beach, metalwoods guru at TaylorMade. "I don't see that we're obsoleting courses by what we're doing, but we're definitely moving toward optimal launch conditions one step at a time."
