You can put [caddie] Joe [Pyland] and me anywhere. We can hobnob, or we can slum-and-dumb. You ain't no better than nobody else. I'm still living in a trailer, though I'm probably going to build a house soon. I'm clearing off some land. That's been the most expensive thing. I'm trying to save my money. I'd like to retire at 43 or 45. You gotta have a dream.

Clothes make the man

This is the first year I've worn regular pants. I used to wear nothing but rain pants because of a skin disease on my knee. Whether it's cleared up or has gone away, I don't know. These pants have a little more polyester inside the knee for me.

Hometown hero

The Santa Rosa County Commissioners in Milton [Fla.] proclaimed April 26 Boo Weekley Day for my victory at Hilton Head. That was special, especially since a lot of the guys I played golf with growing up [including Heath Slocum and Bubba Watson] were there.

Big break

Getting laid off at the Monsanto Chemical plant, where I did a lot of hydroblasting, was a good thing. They were taking volunteers to be laid off, and I volunteered. I just thought there's a lot of guys who had families, and to me, they needed the job more than I did.

Driver

I play a 9.5-degree Cleveland HiBore XL driver. The shaft is a 45-inch Aldila prototype, X-flex.
