Golf Channel loses its set, but the show went on

August 14, 2015

The show must go on, as a Golf Channel hashtag put it, borrowing an entertainment mantra, and so it did on Friday night, from a makeshift set in the media center interview room at Whistling Straits.

The storms that ended the second round of the PGA Championship prematurely on Friday wreaked havoc on Golf Channel's set, as this video shows:

Yeah, the weather was brutal at > #WhistlingStraits. Our LIVE From the > #PGAChamp set took a beating. > #TheShowMustGoOn > https://t.co/Ec6tLna1NT — Golf Channel (@GolfChannel) > August 15, 2015

Nonetheless, Rich Lerner and Brandel Chamblee were on the air as scheduled, 8 p.m. (EDT).

"It is quite gentle and calm right now, but that was not the case not that long ago," Lerner said. "Some of the walls came down, the roof was damaged. It was nasty. So we're coming to you from inside the media center here at Whistling Straits."

Replied Chamblee, "I'm happy to be in one piece. Obviously our set got demolished. Driving out from our compound there was nothing but downed limbs. It was a ferocious storm and as ferocious as the storm was it seems that the play of Jordan Spieth continues to be that way."

Nice segue on a difficult evening.
