Rory's golden touch continues, settles court case with Horizon Sports

February 04, 2015

Rory McIlroy avoided a potentially nasty court battle with his former management company, Horizon Sports, after the two parties officially settled the case on Wednesday. Rumors of a potential settlement had been rumbling a day earlier, but the pair made it official with a short-but-sweet statement to the media:

"The legal dispute between Rory McIlroy and Horizon Sports Management has been settled to the satisfaction of both parties who wish each other well for the future. The parties will be making no further comment."

The exact terms of the settlement remain unknown, but a report from the BBC pegs the potential dollar amount that Rory will pay Horizon at more than $20 million:

A source close to the case said the settlement was "far north" of $20m.

It's in the public domain that the amount of money owing under the contract and the money likely to be generated from the the contract was $20m," the source said.

Rory McIlroy was in court in Dublin for a brief hearing Rory McIlory is the world's number one golfer Mr Ridge, who was flanked by supporters in the public gallery, hugged and kissed them after the announcement was made.

The two sides had been locked in talks for about 10 hours on Tuesday at the Four Courts complex in central Dublin, with McIlroy leaving at about 21:00 local time, without making any comment.

Rory didn't discuss the case after the news broke, but judging by Rory's cryptic Instagram shortly after the settlement, he doesn't seem too sad about getting back to the range.
