How "old married couple" Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller are making TV history this week

February 26, 2015

We might not see any records broken on the course at this week's Honda Classic, but a bit of history is being made in the broadcast booth. When NBC picks up its TV coverage of the PGA Tour, that will mean a 16th consecutive year of Dan Hicks and Johnny Miller working together.

This sets a record for an 18-hole tower tandem, breaking the previous mark held by ABC's Jim Mckay and Dave Marr. Hicks and Miller discussed their longtime on-air partnership in advance of this week's tournament.

"Let me go first and let you finish it up since you get the last word most of the time," Miller started.

"We're like an old married couple, you can tell," Hicks replied.

Miller then got emotional in describing Hicks, calling on a famous line from the movie "As Good as it Gets."

"Like Jack Nicholson said, 'You make me a better man.' Dan, you make me a better announcer and it's a pleasure to work with you."

Aww. In fact, Miller said it's been such a pleasure that it's kept him from hanging up his microphone.

"I feel comfortable with Dan. I think that's probably one of the reasons I haven't retired to be real honest," Miller said. "I had no intention of going on this many years, but he's just made it too good to quit."

Hicks, obviously, was just as complimentary of Miller, saying he'd look back on their time working together "as fondly as I can look at anything else in my career."

Great stuff, guys. When you finish with your first 18, let's go for another round.
