It largely went without notice Thursday, what with the golf world preoccupied with the state of Tiger Woods’ own game, but Woods is re-entering the gaming market.
The game-maker Zynga (Words with Friends, Farmville) announced that it is entering the sports category with a new brand, Zynga Sports 365, that will include golf games in which Woods is a partner.
"This relationship will enable Zynga to create breakthrough mobile games that bring to life the world of Tiger Woods golf for consumers,” Zynga CEO Don Mattrick said in a company earnings news conference at the close of the stock market on Thursday.
Zynga’s chief operating officer Clive Downie suggested Woods would have input in the game.
“By combining Tiger Woods’ unparalleled golf insights with Zynga’s ability to create meaningful connections between players, we can develop truly unique social golf games that bring authenticity and accessibility to sports enthusiasts,” Downie said in a news release.
“We are looking forward to making our Tiger Woods golf game available to all of our players globally this year and giving our players and Tiger’s fans a new way to interact with their favorite golfer.”
Woods, whose golf woes took a negative turn with his 74 in the first round of the PGA Championship, previously was associated with EA Sports, which ended the relationship last October.
