Depending on their finish in the British Open, five different men could hold that honor come Sunday night, including the current occupant of the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking, Adam Scott.

With a victory Scott, obviously, stays in place. In fact as long as the Australian finishes inside the top three, no other player can pass him.

Should Scott fail to crack the top three, however, it opens the door for others:

__Bubba Watson becomes No. 1 . . .

__-- With a win and a Scott finish outside the top 15.

__Justin Rose becomes No. 1 . . .

__-- With a win and a Scott finish outside the top six

__Henrik Stenson becomes No. 1 . . .

__-- With a win and a Scott finish outside the top three.

-- With a solo second, a Scott finish outside the top 17 and Watson and Rose don't win.

-- With a T-2 with one other player, a Scott missed cut and Watson, Rose and Jason Day don't win.

__Jason Day becomes No. 1 . . .

__-- With a win, a Scott finish outside the top 21 and a Stenson finish worse than second alone.
