9 slightly random things you can buy at the British Open

By Luke Kerr-Dineen

HOYLAKE, England -- The British Open is a celebration of golf, and the tournament hardly needs to remind people of that. But even if that is the theory the R&A is operating on, they're really pushing it with some of the products they're offering at Hoylake this week.

Like this. If you really want, you can place an order for a Doosan excavator based on how much you like the 1/50 scale model on display.

You can also buy some pulled pork, which is quite strange, really. British Open-goers don't like people calling it the "British Open", but they don't mind selling the most American dish imaginable ever on the grounds?

You can buy pizza, too. No Italy, no problem.

The idea of buying binoculars isn't that peculiar, but it's not super common to offer rangefinders at the course. Not really a bad idea, though.

nikon-518.jpgWant a Mercedes? Well that's good, because if really want, you can buy a Mercedes right off the 18th hole.

In the whole scheme of things, this yellow backpack is a little more normal that some of the other items. But nevertheless: how often do you see a yellow backpack?

Again, not incredibly unusual to see the odd aspirin on sale, but this is essentially an entire pharmacy. Come to think of it, I do need some toothpaste. . .

You can even buy jewelry for your wife (or yourself) if you want to. Might be a good way to make up for the fact that you're buying it at the British Open.

Ok, so you're probably not buying anything at the HSBC, but you can open a bank account in between watching Phil and Tiger tee off if you want to. Heck, you can even refinance your mortgage if you feel like it.
