Winner's Bag: What Martin Kaymer used to win the U.S. Open

By E. Michael Johnson

loop-kaymer-winners-bag-usopen-518.jpgMartin Kaymer had an interesting set makeup as he pulled away from the field to win the U.S. Open. It included a pair of TaylorMade Tour Preferred MC 3-irons, with one of them bent to the loft of a 2-iron.

Kaymer used the club for several tee shots to try to keep himself in play on some of the shorter holes (like on the first hole of the final round above) where his ball could more easily fall off into the sandy, shrub-infested areas. The club helped Kaymer hit 43 of 56 fairways for the week, which ranked T-9.

Here's a look at the rest of the bag for the now two-time major champion:

Ball: TaylorMade Lethal

Driver: TaylorMade SLDR 460 (Graphite Design Tour AD DI-6 X), 9.5 degrees

3-wood: TaylorMade SLDR, 14 degrees

Irons (3): TaylorMade Tour Preferred MC; (3-PW): TaylorMade Tour Preferred MC

Wedges: TaylorMade TP xFT (54, 58 degrees)

Putter: Ping Karsten Anser 2
