GIF: Sergio Garcia does the most Sergio thing ever, makes birdie then hits a shank

By Luke Kerr-Dineen

After birdieing his first hole Friday to get back to two over in the 114th U.S. Open, Sergio Garcia flared his drive right on the par-4 11th hole (his second) at Pinehurst No. 2 and hit what can best be described as a shank.

He managed to hack his ball on to the green but missed his bogey putt (ESPN's graphic was mistaken, according to his scorecard on the USGA website). His double-bogey 6 dropped him to four over for the tournament and ever closer to the projected cut line, which at the time stood at six over.
