After two days of receptive greens and favorable fairways, the USGA decided to crank it up a few notches. Selecting tougher hole locations Saturday when the course continued to dry out, Pinehurst looked like a baked-out British Open for the third round.
It became obvious early when Phil Mickelson couldn't hold the fifth green with a wedge.
