Erik Compton received a huge outpouring of support after his U.S. Open finish

Erik Compton may not have won the 2014 U.S. Open, but that didn't matter. People everywhere were drawn to his hugely inspirational story, and they weren't shy in letting know about it.

After shooting 72 to finish T-2 behind Martin Kaymer on Sunday, the two-time heart-transplant recipient tweeted a thank you to everyone who supported him throughout the week.

And that was before he even checked his phone. Later that night, he sent out another tweet apologizing for taking a little longer than usual to respond to people's text messages -- he had a lot of them, after all. Don't worry, Erik, I'm sure they won't mind.
