The Loop

Mario Batali is hosting a golf tournament (don't worry, there'll be food there, too)

Mario Batali is a foodie and total golf addict. About two years ago, he featured on Golf Channel's "Haney Project" and was asked what it was about golf that he liked so much.

"In the restaurant business you're 24/7," Batali said. "When you're out on the golf course you've got that sense of luxurious nothingness that makes golf good for the heart and good for the soul but a therapeutic reevaluation of what's in the planning."

Lot's of big words in there, but you get the point: the man really loves golf. So much that he decided to combine it with his other passion: food.

On May 10th, Mario Batali is joining with our friends over at Bon Appétit (another Condé Nast-owned publication) to host the Swing Session Celebrity Golf Classic in Las Vegas. All the proceeds from the event will go to the Mario Batali Foundation, whose mission is to ensure children are "well read, well fed, and well cared for."

The event, according to the release, will be followed by food at a variety of nice restaurants. Hunter Mahan and former President Bill Clinton have attended the event in recent years. I wonder why.

The Mario Batali Foundation Goes on the Road for Swing Session Las Vegas

Swing Session Celebrity Golf Classic Presented by The Coca-Cola Company with special guests Morgan Spurlock and Michael Symon

April 16, 2014 - New York City. The Mario Batali Foundation (MBF) will host back-to-back events this May - Swing Session Las Vegas and The Beef & Barolo Extravaganza. 100% of ticket sales from both events will benefit the Mario Batali Foundation, whose mission is to ensure that children are well read, well fed and well cared for. MBF is thrilled that Bon Appétit is a sponsor of these events and has included us in their Vegas Uncork'd by Bon Appétit lineup of exciting events.

On Saturday, May 10th, MBF brings its famed Swing Session Celebrity Golf Classic to Las Vegas's Cascata. Join celebrities and world-class chefs for an amazing day of gourmet food and golf. The Las Vegas classic promises to be the ultimate gastronomic event as guests hit the greens to eat, drink and swing their way through a memorable day of golf and deliciousness alongside MBF Founder Mario Batali, Bon Appétit Editor-in-Chief Adam Rapoport, Michael Symon, Morgan Spurlock and many more. Guests will escape the bustle of the Strip while enjoying cuisine from Las Vegas's most celebrated restaurants including:

B&B Burger & Beer B&B Ristorante CUT by Wolfgang Puck Emeril's Restaurants Raku

Golfers at previous Swing Session golf events have included President Bill Clinton, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, PGA Tour star Hunter Mahan, musicians Edge and Mike Mills, chefs Emeril Lagasse, Ming Tsai, and actors Billy Crudup, Andy Garcia and Josh Charles. Many will return this year to beat their scores and enjoy a fun-filled day benefitting the Mario Batali Foundation. "I could not be more excited to take Swing Session on the road," says Mario Batali. "It is, without a doubt, my favorite event we've hosted. There is no better way to raise funds and awareness for MBF."

The fun continues Saturday evening with a Beef & Barolo Extravaganza at Mario's CarneVino Italian Steakhouse. Guests will sample the restaurant's exclusive brand of organic, super-prime beef paired with the pride of the Italian Peninsula: Barolo wines. A limited number of tickets to Beef & Barolo are available to non-golfers.

MBF is thankful for the support of its sponsors: The Coca-Cola Company, Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches, Bon Appétit Magazine, Southern Wine and Spirits, and Apollo Jets.
