By Sam Weinman

Thumb through an issue of Golf Digest from 1984 and it's remarkable how much remains relevant 30 years later.

But not everything. Virtually every ad for golf balls featured options in yellow and orange. New "easy to hit" drivers had heads the size of a clenched fist. In a column by Tom Kite discussing whether tour players make too much money, he wrote, "I've seen no indication so far that the fans are turned off because a golfer can win $100,000 in one tournament."
