One Stat You Need To Know Today: First round leaders at Pebble are boom or bust

February 06, 2014

If recent history tells us anything, it's that golfers at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am better show up early or the train might leave without them.

Since 2007,__ four of the last seven winners of the tournament have either led or co-led after the first round,__ including three of the last five. That compared, for example, to the Waste Management Phoenix Open last week, where you'd have to go all the way back to 1990 to find four winners who led after the first round.

On the flip side, since 2007, only two of the other seven people who either led or co-led after the first round finished in the top 15 -- Charlie Wi, who finished second in 2012, and John Mallinger, who finished third in 2007. The final places of the rest of the first round leaders? T-28, T-35, T-39, T-42 and T-48.
