Impact: Walter Hagen, Match Play master

By Alex Holmes

Of course that wasn't a problem for Hagen, who had a knack for coming in first. Particularly when match play was concerned. When the PGA Championship was a match-play event, Hagen won the title in five of his first eight starts, including a record four straight from 1924 to 1927.*

* Oh, he had some luck in stroke-play events too (see 45 PGA Tour victories and six additionally major championships).
