Alabama men roll again in coaches' poll

Alabama, victorious in its 2013-14 season opener at Olympia Fields, kept hold of the top spot in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division I coaches' poll. The defending NCAA champions won their seventh straight event dating back to last spring when they claimed the Fighting Illini Invitational title by 18 strokes. The Crimson Tide earned 16 of the 21 available first-place votes.

Georgia Tech, coming off back-to-back victories at the Carpet Capital Classic and the Tar Heel Intercollegiate that helped them garner three first-place votes, claimed the No. 2 spot in the poll, the highest the Yellow Jackets have been ranked since February 2006.

Round out the top five are Texas, Washington and California, who earned the remaining two first-place votes.

One new school joined the top 10: No. 10 Oklahoma, winner at the Golfweek Conference Challenge. The Sooners made the biggest move from the preseason poll, jumping from No. 23.

Three new schools moved into the top 25: UCF at No. 18, Arizona State with a share of No. 20 and Houston at No. 22. For the Cougars it's just the second time they've been in the Golf World top 25 since September 2001.

Barry, victorious in its 2013-14 season opener at the Brickyard Crossings Invitational, kept hold of the top spot in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division II coaches' poll. The Buccaneers earned 14 of the 15 available first-place votes as they look to defend their 2013 NCAA title.

Methodist  jumped up two spots to claim the No. 1 ranking in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf Division III coaches' poll. The Monarchs claimed six of 16 available first-place votes to ascend to the top spot.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was one of five other schools to earn first-place votes, receiving three, as the Stags moved into the No. 2 spot.

Emory and UT-Tyler, both earning one first-place votes, fell into place at No. 3 and 5, with La Verne rounding out the top five.

The other two programs to earn first-place votes where Oglethorpe, which tied for No. 7 in the ranking, and Rhodes, which came in No. 11 after being unranked in the preseason poll.

Preseason No. 1 Transylvania fell to No. 6 after finishing fourth in its first two starts of the 2013-14 season.

Oklahoma City claimed all nine available first-place votes as the Stars earned the No. 1 ranking in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf NAIA coaches' poll. In its first two starts of the fall, Oklahoma City has two victories, including the NAIA Fall Preview at LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Central Alabama and South Mountain each held on to the No. 1 ranking in the latest Golf World/Nike Golf NJCAA coaches' polls. Central Alabama earned five of the seven available first-place votes to retain the top spot in the Division I poll with No. 2 Odessa grabbing the other two votes. South Mountain claimed six of the seven available first-place votes in the Division II poll with No. 2 Walters State earning the remaining vote.
