Fitness Friday: No time to warm up? Try these tips from LPGA players

Every week my colleague Ron Kaspriske, Golf Digest Fitness Editor, presents Fitness Friday on the Instruction Blog. This week Golf Digest Assistant Editor Steve Hennessey fills in with some pre-round warmups from LPGA players. Look for Weekend Tip tomorrow, and remember to follow me on Twitter: @RogerSchiffman.

Here's Steve: Unlike the pros, most amateurs don't have a lot of time to warm up properly before a round of golf. In a perfect world, we would all spend 30 minutes going through a series of exercises to get our bodies ready to play. We would also spend another 30 to 60 minutes on the practice tee, and putting green and even in the practice bunkers.

But if you're in a rush and your tee time is only minutes away, you can still do some simple things to prep your muscles, ligaments and tendons for the rigors of the game. Many trainers are now in agreement that long-hold (10 seconds or longer) stretches might make muscles too limber to contract effectively. So most pre-round movement preparation focuses on dynamic movements that warm the muscles, ligaments and tendons, but don't stretch them past functionality.

At last week's ShopRite Classic in New Jersey, we asked three LPGA Tour stars--Lexi Thompson, Paige MacKenzie and Belen Mozo--to demonstrate some of the things they do before a round. Click on the video below to see them.
