Toast Jack's first major with a magnum of Nicklaus

June 04, 2012

Fifty years ago this month, Jack Nicklaus won the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club, his first victory as a professional and the first of his 18 major championship victories. If this calls for a toast, Jack Nicklaus Wine has the answer.

To commemorate his first major, Nicklaus Wine is releasing the first in a series of Golden Bear Commemorative Series magnums, this a red blend from Napa Valley, 2009 vintage. Only 1,000 magnums will be released, each selling for $600. They can be purchased here.

Each year, another limited-edition wine will be released commemorating one of Nicklaus' major victories, each of them including "a letter from Jack reflecting on the respective tournament win," and a numbered hologram for authenticity.

"Each major had its own storyline, its own drama, and each was special to me for different reasons," Nicklaus said on his website. "We think a wine blend from Napa Valley, with its own vintage character, will be a great way for golf fans and wine lovers to share in what was for me a life-changing experience and what created a lifetime of memories."
