Texas men finish spring at No. 1

With its spot atop the final Golf World/Nike Golf men's Division I coaches' poll of the 2011-12 season, Texas has been the No. 1 team in the last seven editions of the poll. The Longhorns now rank fifth among men's program having held the top spot since the polls were relaunched in 2001-02.

Here's a look at the teams that been No. 1, and the number of times they've held that ranking:

Georgia, 21
Florida, 11
Clemson, 9
Texas, 7
Alabama, 6
Georgia Tech, 5
UCLA, 4
Stanford, 3
Auburn, 1
Charlotte, 1
May 21 Men's D-I poll (250).jpgMoving up one spot to No. 2 is SEC champion Alabama. Pac-12 champion California also got a nice bump, jumping two spots to No. 3.

While grabbing only two of the available 11 first-place votes, Barry maintain its place atop the final Golf World/Nike Golf D-II coaches' poll of the spring. Three victories in the 2011-12 season as a well as nine top-three finishes in 11 starts help secure the favorite label for the Buccaneers as they play in the NCAA Championship this week at Cardinal Club GC in Louisville, Ky.

Also holding firm in the No. 2 and 3 spots are Nova Southeastern, with five first-place votes, and CSU-Stanislaus, with one first-place vote.


Men's D-III May 21 poll (250).jpgMethodist, with 14 of the 16 available first-place votes, kept hold of the No. 1 ranking in the final Division III coaches' poll. The Monarchs won five times in 2011-12 as attempt to claim their 11th NCAA golf title this week at Mission Inn Resort outside of Orlando.


Men's NAIA May 21 poll (250).jpgOklahoma Christian continues to lay claim to the No. 1 ranking in the NAIA coaches' poll, earning six of the 11 first-place votes. The Eagles will attempt to defend their national title at the NAIA Championship next week in Salem, Ore.


Men's NJCAA May 21 poll (250).jpgMeridian and South Mountain both kept their No. 1 rankings in the final NJCAA D-I and D-II polls of the spring. The Eagles try to win their first D-I national championship this week at Sand Creek Station GC in Newton, Kan. The Cougars compete in the D-II championship next week at Indiana's Swan Lake Resort, where they'll try to claim the title they previously won in 2004 and 2010.
