Together again: Westwood, Garrigus, Karlsson

June 06, 2011

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The featured television pairing for the first round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic is going to look familiar to those who watched last year's event.

Golf World has learned that last year's champion, world No. 2 Lee Westwood, will be paired with Robert Garrigus and Robert Karlsson on Thursday. The three men were in a playoff at TPC Southwind after Garrigus triple-bogeyed the final hole of regulation to lose all of a three-stroke lead. He bogeyed the first playoff hole, the 18th, to fall out of the playoff. Westwood outlasted Karlsson on the fourth playoff hole for his second PGA Tour win.

It was not known when the three men will begin their opening round. Tee times will be released Tuesday.

"It's going to be fun. I think we'll have a blast, really," Garrigus said Monday at Brookside G&CC, where he was one of 15 players to advance out of sectional qualifying for next week's U.S. Open at Congressional CC in Bethesda, Md. "I'm looking forward to having another shot at trying to beat them."

Garrigus advanced to his third appearance in the U.S. Open with an 11-under 133 total over 36 holes at Brookeside and The Lakes G&CC, one behind co-medalists Chez Reavie and Brandt Jobe. Garrigus would have joined them at the top if not for a scoring error. He signed for a 67 in the first 18 at Brookside when he had actually shot 66. His scorecard included a 4 on the par-3 17th when he actually had made a 3.

"I'm just relieved to have made it through and it didn't matter," Garrigus said. "I'm playing really well right now, actually, so it turned out all right."
