Arnie: The King's new golf apparel line

March 23, 2011

It's called, simply, Arnie, a new apparel line being developed by Arnold Palmer Enterprises in partnership with Quagmire Golf that will borrow from the classic designs worn by Arnold Palmer in the peak decades of his playing career. The venture was announced Wednesday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill Club in Orlando, Fla.

Quagmire Golf had access to Palmer's archive of photographs from which it culled its designs in part. Shown here is Palmer wearing the cardigan that inspired the Cardigan Crest that will be part of the Arnie collection.

The line officially will be introduced in three stages in 2012: the 1950s Collection in February, the 1960s Collection in April and the 1970s Collection in July. The apparel will have an MSRP of $79 and up.

It's a curious partnership between Palmer and Quagmire Golf, the former representing tradition, the latter a quirky Canadian concern that was built on its departure from traditional golf apparel, "a chilled lifestyle brand," as it describes itself on its website.

"IMG and the Arnold Palmer Enterprises people contacted us las year and asked if we had any interest in doing a clothing line with Arnold," Quagmire co-founder Geoff Tait said. "They said they'd been watching us the last five or six years and liked it.

"I'll tell you, it's a dream come true, that's for sure."
