First round off to slow start due to fog

August 12, 2010

HAVEN, Wis. -- All the excitement leading up to the start of the PGA Championship has given way to new intrigue -- for instance, when they might actually tee off.

A heavy fog has descended on Whistling Straits, delaying the start of play by an expected two and a half hours. That means the first groups wouldn't go off until 9:30 CDT, Tiger Woods wouldn't play until until 10:50, and the last groups of the day would have to wait until 4:45 p.m.

Which, in other words, means they won't finish the first round on Thursday.

__Update, 9:40 a.m.:__Play will begin at 10:10 CDT. A three-hour and 10 minute delay. The first two groups to play are Bo Van Pelt, Vaughn Taylor and Scott Hebert off the first tee and Jason Day, Tim Petrovic and Rich Steinmetz off No. 10.

A group featuring young guns Rickie Fowler and Ryo Ishikawa will be next to tee off on the back nine. Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh and defending champion Y.E. Yang will begin play at 11:30 CDT.
