Hall truth: Move to May is a good one

July 22, 2010

The World Golf Hall of Fame announced today that it is moving its induction to the Monday of the Players Championship week (in this case May 9, 2011) as a means of increasing its exposure

The induction ceremony heretofore had been held in November, after the golf season had concluded, impairing exposure. The new date virtually assures increased coverage of golf's showcase event, off-the-course category.

"The induction ceremony continues to be an incredibly important event for golf each year as we take the opportunity to recognize the sport's greatest achievers," PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem said in a statement. "Moving the Ceremony to the spring will heighten the event's exposure in a variety of ways and will add a new level of excitement to the Players for fans, media, sponsors and past and current players."

Hall of Fame ballots have been mailed. The 2011 inductees will be announced at a later date.
