How do you shoot 57? Blow a chance to shoot 55

June 13, 2009

"Folded under the pressure, I guess," Champions Tour player Mike Goodes tells the Greensboro (N.C.) News-Record, after shooting a 14-under par 57 that included pars at the final two holes at Greensboro Country Club on Thursday.

OK, so the Donald Ross course is short, 6,130 yards, but 57? In one 10-hole stretch, the newspaper reports, Goodes had eight birdies and two eagles. His playing partner, Greensboro CC member Eric Anthony, shot 67. "It kind of hurts to shoot a 67 and still get beat by 10 shots," Anthony says.

Goodes, neeless to say, broke the course record, a 59 shot by former PGA Tour player Lee Porter.
