Champions Tour off to Asia

June 10, 2009

Asia, perhaps, was the next frontier for a tour looking to extend its influence, or at least to help it offset some of the sponsor difficulties it has encountered in the U.S. And so it was that the Champions Tour on Wednesday announced that it was taking its show to South Korea in the fall of 2010.

The tour has a multiyear agreement for a new tournament to be held at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea, 40 miles west of Seoul.

"This is a significant step for the Champions Tour to expand the reach of our brand globally with some of the most recognizable and accomplished players in the game," PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said in a news release. "The Korean market is an important one to the PGA Tour and we welcome this addition to the Champions Tour schedule and the opportunity to further elevate golf in South Korea with an event of this magnitude."
