Norman and Augusta: The final chapter

April 05, 2009

Greg Norman returns to Augusta National this week for what figures to be more of a sentimental journey than one final quest for a green jacket. And though his golf game isn't what it once was, his capacity for attracting attention has not diminished.

The stories already have started to appear, some of them more sentimental than others. There's this, from Karen Crouse in the New York Times on Norman's return with son Gregory in tow as his caddie. The headline: "Norman and Son Re-Embrace a Legacy Together."

Mark Reason in the Telegraph revisits Norman's '96 implosion at Augusta, beneath this headline: "Greg Norman back to the scene of the Great White Flag." Ouch.

Norman himself apparently does not view it as a sentimental journey. He has been working on his game in preparation, evidence of which has been his stellar performance in the Shell Houston Open, where he made the cut and is flirting with a top-20 finish.
